There's nothing quite like the taste and comfort of homemade applesauce. Your household will thank you too for the exquisite aroma this recipe provides.
INGREDIENTS
- 8 apples (honeycrisp, gala, or fuji are my fave)
- 1/3 cup water (or apple juice and omit the honey)
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground clove
- 1 tsp lime or lemon juice
DIRECTIONS
- Peel, core, and chop the apples. In a large pot, combine the apples, water, honey, and spices. Cover and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Continue to simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the pot from the heat. Add the apple mixture and lemon juice to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth or to desired consistency.
- Adjust taste as desired with more cinnamon or lemon.
- Enjoy warm or chilled. Store leftover applesauce in an airtight glass container. It will keep in the refrigerator for one week, or freeze and thaw at a later date.
